Beauty Pie Haul – My final orders

(Top shade – Fantasticolour Sculpting Lipstick in Rebel Ruby / 2nd shade – Powderstick Matte Lip Crayon in Guilty Girl)

If you have read my post back in December you will know that I signed up for a 3-month membership to Beauty Pie. And if you aren’t sure what Beauty Pie is, have a look back at my previous post here. Since then I have made my final two Beauty Pie orders and wanted to give you an update on my thoughts of the brand.

I made my second order in Dec and picked up; Super Retinol (+ Vitamin C) Night Renewal (rrp £75 / member cost £8.37), Powderstick Matte Lip Crayon in Guilty Girl (rrp £18 / member cost £3.47) and Fantasticolour Sculpting Lipstick in Rebel Ruby (rrp £18 / member cost £2.66). With the membership, Beauty Pie give you a monthly allowance of £112 (rrp) but you’ll basket will only charge you the member-cost (at factory prices). What I however quickly realised is that if you want to buy their skincare range, that £112 limit does not stretch very far. With my final order, I bought; Super Pore-Detox Black Clay Mask (rrp £50 /member cost £6.15), Unbeatable Concealer in Shade 75 Neutral (rrp £20 / member cost £4.10) and Wondercolour Nail Polish in Le Milk (rrp £14 / member cost £4.10).

My Verdict:
Starting with skincare, since the buzz surrounding acids lately in the beauty industry, I was most excited to try out their Retinol Night Renewal from their Retinol range they released in November. I was just a little disappointed I couldn’t order more from the range though due to the membership budget limit. After looking through the range I opted for the Super Retinol Night Renewal cream. I’ve used it for a couple of weeks now but I’ve not seen a huge difference if I’m honest, but I will keep you posted on my progress. I do however have to say the pump on this bottle is a little naff, and in order to get a decent amount of product you have to pump the lid a fair few times. The Super Pore-Detox Black Mask however is really great! I’ve used it once a week since ordering it and I do think its made a difference to keeping any spots away, leaving my skin feeling super clean and un-clogged.

The make-up items overall are great for the price tag too! The nail polish in Le Milk is my second polish from Beauty Pie, and I’m super impressed by the quality (you usually only need one coat of polish) and lasting power – I would definitely recommend trying their polishes if you are interested in signing up to Beauty Pie, and only £4.10 – bargain! I’ve also really enjoyed using both lip products – Powderstick Matte Lip Crayon in Guilty Girland Fantasticolour Sculpting Lipstick in Rebel Ruby. Both are really lovely shades and the texture of both styles apply really nicely. The best of the bunch though is the Unbeatable Concealer! Used under the eyes, it has full coverage and the texture means it stays in place throughout the day.

So will I join Beauty Pie permanently? If I wasn’t such a beauty addict, wanting to try everything out there, I actually might spend £10 a month to be able to buy all my makeup from Beauty Pie. The quality is really good, but I would feel I needed to buy something every month. I would definitely however sign-up for a three month membership again in order to test out more of their skincare. From what I can see from their range, they are really trying to challenge the market, bringing quality products and ingredients at affordable prices. I would really recommend checking out Beauty Pie!

Have you tried anything from Beauty Pie yet? Or will you be signing up to check out their products for yourself?

Do you really have oily skin??

Recently I popped into my local Kiehl’s store in Brighton. Simply just browsing the shelves whilst the husband was getting his hair cut a few doors down. Whilst I was in there I got talking to the in-store adviser who kindly took me through a skin consultation.

We talked through my skin concerns which were mainly that my skin was feeling more oily lately and blemished – I think mainly down to working back in London and being in the highly populated air a lot of the time now. She then proceeded to press some testing patching pads on my skin to check the levels of oil in my skin to discover I wasn’t actually that oily. “Do you tend to find that you are more oily towards the end of the day?” she asked. Yup! By the time I’m on my train home from work all my makeup is slipping over my face. She explained, that because I was treating my skin as oily (using products to combat the shine), my skin was actually feeling very dehydrated – explaining that actually by the end of the day my skin was over compensating and producing more oil because it needed the moisture. Well that kinda makes sense as I’ve always mainly had dry skin…Go figure!

We then went through some different products I could try to improve my skin. She recommended four products –

  • Kiehl’s Ultra Face Toner
  • Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate
  • Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer – Daily Hydrator for Sensitive Skin
  • Kiehl’s Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque

I didn’t make any purchases there and then because quite frankly, with Christmas around the corner my pennies are a little limited but she did kindly give me some samples to test. What I can say is that I will definitely be buying the Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate and Kiehl’s Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque in the new year because they were so nice on my skin.

In the meantime however, I’ve been evaluating my skincare routine and upping the moisture and I’ve been noticing a drastic difference! I’ve recently starting testing the Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Day Antioxidant Super Moisturising Cream in the mornings and I really like it. It contains Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate and plump the skin, retaining up to 1,000 times its weight in water and also Antioxidant Superfruit pomegranate to neutralise any harmful effects from daily aggressions. By the end of the day my skin is still feeling soft and plump but not oily. Turn’s out the lady in Kiehl’s was 100% right! I’ve also started to add in a night cream into my evening skincare routine because I never really bothered before. I’m testing out a few at the moment so I can’t say I have a favourite but I have really noticed a real difference in my skin.

Do you find yourself with oliy skin later in the day? Or does the above skin issues sound familiar? I would really reccomend try to speak to a professional or even popping into Kiehls like I did for a skin consultation. You might see a real difference in your skin!

What is your skin type? And what is your favourite moisturiser?

Glossier brought me back!

There is nothing like a highly anticipated beauty launch in the UK to inspire me to pick up the blogging strings again. There hasn’t been a range I’ve been really excited about in a long time, which along with other life commitments has also been the reason I haven’t blogged in a very long while!

Glossier launched in the UK on 9th October 2017 and everyone is talking about it. I’ve been a fan of Into The Gloss since forever and when Emily Weiss launch her beauty range back in 2014, us Brits were tortured with all the US bloggers raving about it. Like many of you, I watched Anna’s (from the Anna Edit) New York haul running through all the beauty products she loved, and I was there making a mental shopping list in my head. As soon as 9th October rolled around, I made my order!

I wanted to try a range of the Glossier products so I opted for some skincare and make-up. First of all, I picked up the Glossier Phase 1 Set (£35) inc. Milky Jelly Cleanser, Priming Moistuzer and Balm Dotcom, which worked out saving £8. In the make-up department I opted for trying the famous Cloud Paint in Dusk (£15) and Haloscope in Quartz (£18).

My Verdict:

Starting with the skincare, the standout product for me in the Glossier Phase 1 Set is definiety the Milky Jelly Cleanser. It’s fuss-free, gentle on my skin and leave my face feeling really soft. It’s not heavy enough for me for an evening cleanse – I tend to use Oskia Cleansing Gel , but this is perfect to add to your morning skincare routine. The Priming Moistuzer is good, but personally I could do with something a little moisturizing in this colder weather. This would be perfect for me in the summer though when I tend to get a little more oiler. I do also really like the packaging of this, the squeezey tube will mean you can get every last drop out. And the Balm is my another of my favourite purchase of my order. Not only is it a great lip balm, but it smells amazing – just like birthday cake (I’m a big fan of the sweet scents!). It worth saying the birthday flavour does look a little glittery on first sight but it doesn’t really translate on the lips.

The Cloud Paint and Haloscope are both products I knew I would love before I even purchased them. The Cloud Paint is a creamy blush which can be worn lightly or built up, and Haloscope is Glossier’s highlight product. I’m a big fan of a cream face product to ensure a more glowy look. I would add though that both of there products are better applied with fingers rather than with any makeup brushes, as it gives more of a natural look. Out of the two I do like the Cloud Paint best and I’m interested in getting my hands on my shades. It’s looks natural on your cheeks which is long lasting throughout the day.

Have you tried anything from the Glossier range yet? If so, is there anything you would recommend trying next?

Kat Von D Beauty – Birthday Haul

For my birthday my wonderful family gave me some Debenhams vouchers. As soon as I received these, I went straight online to add to my Kat Von D Beauty collection. When I went to visit the Kat Von D beauty counter before, I brought a Studded Kiss Lipstick in Cathedral and a Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Exorcism (check out my previous haul here). I feel in love with the formulation of the liquid lipstick, that I wanted more for my collection.

After traipsing the internet for swatches, I decided to add; Lolita, Loltia II, Double Dare and Nosferatu to my Everlasting Liquid Lipstick collection. This selection pretty much sums up my lipstick favouring – I love a nude/pinkish shade or a strong red. I did feel I was being a bit silly buying Lolita, Lolita II and Double Dare as they are quite similar, but after consulting my best friend Emily who said ‘but at least you will wear all of them!’ they were in my basket. And I’m pleased I did because seeing the swatches up close, they all bring something different – Lolita is a brownish nude, whereas Lolita II has more of a red undertone and Double Dare is defiantly more pink toned. I also decided to pick up Nosferatu because I love a vampy red for evenings.

Included in my order, I also picked up the Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner. I’ve heard soooo many good things about this eyeliner and if you know me well, you will know I love my liquid liner. The Tattoo Liner is famous for being long-lasting and smudge proof, along with a great brush perfect for precision drawing a winged-liner – this ticked all the boxes for me. My initial thoughts is that I really like it but I will give a full review once I’ve once used a bit more.

Have you used any of these Kat Von D beauty products?

My #1 Look Fantastic Beauty Box

For my birthday, my lovely work colleagues brought me a 3 Month Gift voucher for Look Fantastic. I thought this was such a great idea as it lets me try a new beauty box and it’s like an extended mini birthday treat arriving at my door for next 3 months.

Within my first Look Fantastic beauty box I received; The Vintage Cosmetics Company Slanted Tweezers, Jelly Pong Pong Fairy Lashes Curl Mascara, Pixi Brow Tamer, Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask, Nuxe Gentle Toning Lotion and Trifle Cosmetics Liquid Glow.  They are a couple of common beauty samples brands such as Pixi and Nuxe, which you often find in other beauty boxes but there are also a few brands which I hadn’t heard of before such as; Briogeo and Trifle. I’m looking forward to testing these samples and potentially finding some new favourite brands.

I’m really pleased with my first Look Fantastic box and looking forward to receiving my next box in February. Once I’ve finished my gift subscription, I will then decide if I carry on my subscription but I love about Look Fantastic is that you can choose how many boxes you want to sign up too. You can buy a one off box for £15, sign-up to 3 months for £14.50 per month, sign-up for 6 months for £13.75 per month or sign-up for 12 months for £13 per month. And all options come with free delivery. Plus I love that you can give these boxes as gifts – perfect for your beauty loving friends and family members!

What I Got For My Birthday – 2017

On 7th January, I turned 27 years old! I always love watching videos or reading blog posts on ‘What I got for my Birthday’, so I thought I would do my own blog post this year. If you’re like me and your birthday is in January, you will understand that birthdays aren’t always great – everyone is broke after Christmas and on some form of diet or drinking ban. Nevertheless, my friends and family always come up trumps with eating birthday cake with me, sending my beautiful cards and always giving my some lovely presents – here is what I received –

As everyone know I love a bit of Soap & Glory  so I got spoilt rotten with S&G goodies! The first set came from my best friend, Emily who brought a gorgeous Revolution Blush Palette and the Soap & Glory Pink Pamper set. This cute triangle bag contained some of the S&G cult favourites; Face Soap and Clarity 3 in 1 Daily Detox Vitamin C Facial Wash; Hand Food Hydrating Hand Cream; Heel Genius Foot Cream; Clean On Me Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel; The Scrub of Your Life Body Buffer and The Righteous Butter Body Butter. And all in travel sized too which is sooo handy for up and coming trips in 2017.

The other two sets came from my fiance mum and auntie – they know me so well! From my fiance’s mum, she brought me a Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker set containing four mini lipglosses in; Sugar Peach, Spun Sugar, Pink-Out-Loud and Bare Enough. These are so cute, I’ve always loved these tingly lipglosses. Ash’s auntie got me some more lip products with the No7 Lip Locker Lip Crayons – I’ve never tried these before, so I’m excited to start using these gorgeous shades. She also got my the Soap & Glory Zingle Belles set containing; Sugar Crush Body Wash; Sugar Crush Body Buttercream; Sugar Crush Body Spray and Super-Sudsy Shower Puff. I’ve you haven’t smelt the Sugar Crush scent, I encourage you to go and have a smell of it when you’re next in boots – it’s a lovely sweet citrusy scent which I love using for morning showers.

I also got some lovely tech pressies. The first came from my other best friend, Jenn, she brought me this handy, pretty Oliver Bonas Mobile Charger. The second piece of tech was the FitBit Charge 2. I actually brought this with my birthday money as I’ve been looking to update my old FitBit for ages. In comparison the my old FitBit (which was the old Flex) this does so much more; tells the time (a simple featured I was excited about because my previous one didn’t), tracks your heartbeat and also tracks certain exercises such as weights and running.

As well as birthday money, I also received Debenhams Vouchers. My mum and rest of my family know much I’ve loved the Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks, so they brought me vouchers so I can continuing adding to my collection. I jumped online with my vouchers on the day of my birthday and purchased four new lipsticks as well as the highly recommended Kat Von D Tattoo  Eyeliner – more of these in an up and coming blogpost.

Finally but by no means least, my lovely work colleague also surprised my with a lovely birthday card and also a 3-month gift card for Look Fantastic beauty boxes. I’ve only been there four month and they already know how much I love my makeup and beauty goodies, so they decided to get me a voucher to enjoy some new beauty boxes. I thought this was a fantastic idea and a great way of trying a beauty subscription which I’ve never tried before! As soon as I receive my first box, I will let know what’s it’s like.

Thank you to all who made my birthday very special. I love all my gifts and already enjoying using them all!

M&S Beauty Advent Calendar – Full Review

I know I’m really late sharing my full M&S beauty advent calendar, but I did promise that I would give my full review and share exactly what I got, so here it is –

On Christmas day (yes, it feels like a lifetime ago already!), I finished my M&S Beauty Advent Calendar. First of all, let me show you exactly what I received –

  • Neal’s Yard Remedies Bee Lovely Hand Cream
  • Rodial Super Acids X-treme Acid Rush Peel
  • Filorga Time Filler
  • Pixi Brow Tamer
  • Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil
  • Eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner in Black
  • Ultrasun Face SPF 30
  • Alpha H Liquid Gold – my favourite sample I’ve tried so far!
  • Autograph Nail Polish in Cranberry
  • Nails Inc Gel One Coat Nail Polish in Cranberry
  • Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm – I love this cleanser but hadn’t used it in a while so nice to be able to use this sample
  • Look Good Feel Better Mini Powder Brush
  • Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Cream
  • Rosie for Autograph Lip Glossy in Supermodel Shine – such a gorgeous shade!
  • Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse
  • Philip Kingsley Elasticizer – I’ve always wanted to tried this, so I was excited to receive this.
  • REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream
  • Rituals The Ritual of Sakura Body Cream
  • Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm
  • Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream
  • Pur Minerals Correcting Primer Prep & Perfect
  • Leighton Denny Mini Crystal Nail File – this file is not only cute but its great!
  • Studio 10 Miracle Effect Priming Serum
  • Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm – I use this lip balm all the time so it was a nice surprise to find this
  • Shay & Blue Atropa Belladonna Natural Spray Fragrance

My final thoughts – I LOVED IT! After researching a lot of the beauty calendars and seeing a lot of them were quite expensive, I decided to opt for the M&S Beauty calendar purely because it was a lot cheaper and had a range of beauty brands I really like. The calendar was £35 when you spent £35 on Marks & Spencer home range, clothing or beauty range. This may seems like a bit of a nuisance spending a extra £35 for the sake of it, but I used it to start my Christmas shopping – M&S home range is gorgeous and managed to pick up some really lovely gifts for my family and friends.

I also thought the range of beauty samples were great too! Out of all 25x gifts, I  would honestly say there was only 1-2 samples I won’t use/didn’t love – Autograph Nail Polish, just because the colour is not for me and also Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm, only because I have sooo many samples of this from various beauty boxes. The rest of the samples, I will definitley give a go and some I was over the moon about receiving as I had always wanted to try them. One of which being the Alpha H Liquid Gold sample. I’ve heard a lot about this in the blogging community and I can now see what all the fuss is about, so much so that I’ve already gone out and brought a full size bottle. Some of my other favourite samples were; Nails Inc Gel One Coat Nail Polish in Cranberry, Philip Kingsley Elasticizer; Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm and Rosie for Autograph Lip Glossy in Supermodel Shine. I also love the fact it including beauty tools such as; Leighton Denny Mini Crystal Nail File and Look Good Feel Better Mini Powder Brush.

I can definitley say that if Marks and Spencer decided to do another beauty calendar next year, I will be first in the queue!

What was your favourite beauty calendars last year?

December Birchbox (#2) – Xmas Edition

I say it’s my 2nd Birchbox, because it’s the second box that I have received from my subscription however this is technically my 3rd box as I recently built my own Birchbox in Selfridges last month (find out more here).  Soo a little bit Birchbox heavy on the blog at the moment, but I’m actually really loving this subscription. I get so excited arriving home after my Birchbox has been delivered and can’t wait to start testing and swatches everything.

For December there was of course a Christmas theme, with the box being a gorgeous red and sliver. Also comes in a standing box design, which makes for a lovely pot for beauty tools afterwards. This month I received four beauty samples; Laura Mercier’s Caviar Eyeshadow Stick in Amethyst, Benefit’s Dew The Hoola Liquid Bronzer, Percy & reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm and dr. brandy PoreDermabrasion Mask. I also received one full sized product – Ciate London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner which I have to say I’m already loving! I actually ran out of liquid eyeliner as my box arrived so started using this straight away and I hate to say it, but I think it could be a real contender for replacing my faithful Soap & Glory Supercat Skinny Eyeliner…

Above I have swatched the Ciate eyeliner along with the Benefit Bronzer and Laura’s Mercier’s Eyeshadow stick. I had previously tried out the Hoola liquid bronzer before, so no surprises really here but the surprise came from Laura Mercier’s Eyeshadow Stick. I was shocked that a minute or two after swatching this gorgeous colour, this shadow did not budge! I’m really looking forward to trying this with a make-up after the festive season.

Kat Von D Beauty Haul

Whilst I was visiting London recently, I couldn’t not go to London without visiting the new Kat Von D counter in Debenhams on Oxford Street! I’ve loved Kat Von D ever since I can remember. When she released her own makeup range 8 years ago in US I was eager to get my hands on some of her products – it was the first thing I hunted for when I visited New York for my 21st Birthday. I treasured the Kat Von D eyeshadow palette I got from Sephora, I’ve still got in my collection – more for memories nowadays rather than using it. I literally jumped for joy when I found out earlier this year that she was releasing her range in the UK in Debenhams, Oxford Street.

As soon as I knew we were going to London a couple of months ago, I made sure we arranged time to visit her counter in Debenhams. I would of loved to pick up one of everything in her range, but being good I went straight for her lip collection. There has been so much hype around her liquid lipsticks, I’ve read countless amount my blogs about them and see a lots of swatches of these beautiful shades – so knew I needs to pick one of these up!

I ended up going for the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks in Exorcism. It’s a shade which has really caught my eye quite a few times and I kept seeing the lovely Alice (from Annie Writes Beauty) rave about it – it looks beautiful on her. I also picked up one of Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipsticks in Cathedral. I haven’t seen much about her lipsticks, but I’m not going to lie, I was actually most drawn to the beautiful  studded packaging. I ended up going for the shade Cathedral after having a lovely chat with on the make-up artists on the counter and I’m really glad I went for her recommendation because I love it! The formulas for both of these are fantastic and really long lasting. I’m looking forward to adding to my collection soon!

Have you tried any of Kat Von D’s beauty line yet? If so, what are you recommendations?

Thoughts so far on the M&S Beauty Advent Calendar…

Can you believe that it’s only 12 days till Christmas…! I absolutely love the lead up to Christmas, especially counting down the days with an advent calendar. Nowadays there are always so many beauty calendars to choose from starting from £15 up to £300 plus but this year I got myself the Marks and Spencer Beauty advent calendar.

Here’s what I’ve received so far –
1. Nealsyard Bee lovely Handcream
2. Radial Super Acids X-treme Acid Rush Peel
3. Filorga Time Filler Cream
4. Pixi Brow Tamer
5. Josh Wood Hair Treatment Oil
6. Eyeko Liquid Eyeliner
7. Ultrasun SPF Face Cream
8. Alpha H Liquid Gold
9. Autograph Nail Polish in Cranberry
10. Nails Inc Gel Polish in Cranberry
11. Emma Hardie balm
12. Mini powder brush

I’m really impressed by the samples I have received so far as they are from really great brands, plus they are decent sizes to give the products a real test – even some full size products too! I’ve already tried out a few of these products and after one use, I’m already in love the Alpha H Liquid Gold and a full sized bottle is now on my Christmas wishlist!

Once I’ve reached the end of my calendar I will share a full run down on everything I received, but so far I’m really impressed with the quality of this calendar. Considering the M&S Beauty calendar is probably one of the cheapest on the market – £35 if you spend £35k on M&S home-wear, beauty or clothes (which was easy, as I managed to buy a few Christmas presents!) I do think it’s amazing value for money. I’m already looking forward to seeing what I find in the next box tomorrow!
