Top 5 Autumn/Winter Nails

img_2703

I absolutely love Autumn, its my favourite season! Not only can you start wearing warm coats and accessorize with scarves and wooly hats, you can put the pastel nail colours to bed and bust out the dark, wintery shades. Here is my 5x favourite nails polish for this wintery season –

OPI in Lincoln Park After Dark – I’ve had this bottle for years but it’s still going strong. It’s a gorgeous deep purple shade which almost looks black from a distance. I love this colour, especially for evening looks.

Barry M Matte in Crush – I love a red in any season, but once the weather gets colder I like to opt for a deeper red shade. I also love a matte effect and this shade looks lovely and autumnal.

Rimmel in Give It Some Welly – This is the newest shade in my collection and since picking it up in Boots, I’ve not worn anything else lately. I love how grey nails look nice, clean and chic. Plus I still really love the 60 second Rimmel formulation, and at only £2.99, you can’t go wrong!

Essie in Chinchilly – Every season needs a nude shade, and this is my favourite during the Autumn/Winter months. Although this isn’t a true nude, it’s more of a “greige” (grey and beige) with a slight purple undertone. It just makes for a perfect neutral colour throughout the season.

Topshop in Lucas – This polish has made a few appearance on stephisays. Topshop released a denim polish range a couple of months ago and I ended up picking up Lucas and Leigh, Leigh was the lighter of the two so perfect the summer season but now that it’s turned a bit colder, I’m loving the darker shade – Lucas.

This Works Sleeping Partners Duo

img_5352img_1358

It’s becoming a quite regular occurrence to browse Homesense during my lunch break, as my office is situated 2 minutes from the Brighton store. Apart from becoming an expensive habit, I actually discovered a few bargains recently in their beauty department. My most recent find is This Works Sleeping Partners Duo containing the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray and Deep Sleep Night Oil. This set was already a bargain at £30 (rrp) when the products inside was worth £41, however Homesense were selling this set at £20(!!) so I just had to pick it up!

I’ve heard a lot of good things about This Works products, but the one product that kept catching my eye was the Deep Sleep range so I was thrilled to find this set and try it out. Anyone who knows me personally, knows I love my sleep generally falling asleep on the sofa most nights but my trouble is staying asleep. I’m that kinda of person, who will wake up in the middle of night stressing about all the things I need to do at work or for the wedding, or thinking about the most randomest things. The thought of having something that will calm me at night, sounds like the perfect remedy.

What actually is it? Both these this works products contain provencal lavender, vetiver and wild chamomile scents to help soothe and calm the mind before having a peaceful, deep sleep. The Deep Sleep Pillow Spray can be used to spray around the room or on your pillow to help you relax before going to sleep. The Deep Sleep Night Oil nourishing body oil which absorbs into the skin with the same calming scents to help you feel relaxed.

Does it work? I actually think it does. I love the scent of lavender as it instantly reminds me of being in my nan’s garden – she was was florist and a very keen gardener. Plus her favourite colour was mauve,  so her garden was always full of lavender – so I’m a little bias when it comes to thinking lavender is quite a relaxing scent. I first of all tried the spray before I went to sleep. The scent was quite strong, so there is no need to over spray with this product but it was quite nice to be able to smell it throughout the night in case if I did wake up. The fiancé however, is not a fan of lavender so actually hates me using it as a room spray before going to sleep, so I tend to just use one spray on my pillow (on the side furthest away from him…) but it still does the job. I’ve only used the oil twice, both times when I’ve had a pamper evening. After having a relaxing bath, I would use the oil mainly over my pulse points (where you would usually wear perfume) and I found myself so relaxed that when I tucked myself in bed to read a book, I was actually asleep within 15 minutes.

So apart from the fiancé not loving the smell so I’m needing to use sparingly, I really love both of these products. If you’re looking to add something into your night-time/pamper-routine, I would definitely recommending trying these.

Have you tried any of the This Works Deep Sleep products yet? What did you think?

A Superdrug Haul

When it reaches payday, one of the first shops I always go into is Superdrug to top up on my toiletries and beauty essentials. It’s the type of shop you go into for one item and always come out with a basket full – new products you want to test, items that are better than half price or something you’ve been meaning to pick up for ages.

Nailcare was my first port of call when recently going into Superdrug. I really wanted to pick up a bottle of the Sally Hansen Advanced Hard As Nail polish after borrowing some of mum’s a couple of weeks ago. My nails have been recently so weak due to a lot of gel manicures, and maybe not necessarily removing them correctly and whilst staying with my mum, to protect my nails I applied one layer on the Sally Hansen Advanced Hard as Nails. I then noticed after one week that my nails were starting the grow and snagging much less. I was sold, and instantly wanting to get a bottle for myself. Whilst also in the nail aisle, I also picked up a few nails essentials to keep in my desk at work just in case of any nail emergencies –  Quickies Nail Varnish Remover Pads, nail clippers for any snagged nails and emery boards to keep a couple at work and one in my handbag.

I then visited the skincare aisle – one of my favourite aisles! I needed to pick up some more Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads (which I’ve previously raved about!) and these were ‘better than half price’ at £6.45 (usually around £14 per tub). It was a shame there was only one tub left on the shelf otherwise I would’ve stocked up on couple! I then picked up my all time beauty essential – Blistex Relief Cream for lips. I’m never without a tube of this stuff in my makeup bag because it’s the only thing that will heal my chapped lips. Whilst walking down the aisle I also noticed the Garnier Moisture range. I’ve already picked up the night cream previously (more on this on a future post) but I hadn’t been able to lay my hands down on the tissue mask so grab one of these as well!

The last items in my basket was a tube of toothpaste and hair ties. The Oral B 3D White Luxe Glamourous Shine toothpaste is my favourite toothpaste at the moment and this was also on ‘better than half price’ so I picked up a spare for my bathroom cabinet. I also picked up a mountain a hair ties – 70 hair bands to precise! Anyone else’s hair ties seems to go missing all the time? Hopefully these will keep my going for a while haha! I also picked up some spiral hair bands which claim to not damage or tangle your hair. I’ve seen a lot of these types of hair ties before, so wanted to try them out for myself out.

Do you love a trip to Superdrug? What usually on your basket?

Shine Hair Group Blogger Event

fullsizerenderimg_7602

A couple of weeks ago I attended the Shine blogger event. If you haven’t heard of Shine, it’s a great hair and beauty salon found in Brighton’s North Laines on Gloucester Rd and myself along with some other amazing bloggers were invited along for the launch of their Shine Shampoo Bar. I unfortunately couldn’t attend the event for very long as my lovely fiancé surprised me tickets to see Breakfast at Tiffany’s at the Royal Theatre Brighton on the same night but I was able to stick around for 45mins.

After being greeted by Lisa and the lovely staff at Shine when I arrived with the wonderful Holly from closingwinter.co.uk (we went for amazing hot chocolates before the event), I was treated to a lovely hand massage by Tracie who is one of the beauty therapist. It was sooo lovely and relaxing, especially after a day at work. Tracie was really lovely and she informed me about all the beauty treatments which Shine have to offer, which I might need to find out a little more soon.

Steve, the stylist at Shine then demonstrated some key hair looks for autumn/winter. I was only able to stay for the first look but  Steve showed us how to do a gorgeous knot braid. It looked really fab and it didn’t take very long at all. I’ve been having a practice on my own hair, and once I get the knack of it and can do it as beautifully as Steve did, I will share a photo.

When I had to leave, I was given a gorgeous goody bag which contained the newly released Shine Shampoo Bar. This bar was created by Jonathan who is the owner of the Shine salon and has after 30 years experience in hair. I’ve not used a shampoo bar before, so I’m really excited to try this out. It smells great with Ginger and Lemon scents and also comes in the biodegradable packaging, which is really refreshing to see. As the packaging is so easy to travel with, I’m saving to use this bar on my next weekend away. Along with the new Shine Shampoo bar, there were also some Aveda goodies – Aveda Botanical Kinetics skin toner and some more hair treats with Aveda Invati products.

Thank you for the invite Lisa (@lisaven)

A bit of a Personal Update

IMG_7705.JPGFor more instagram updates, follow me @stephisays

It’s been awhile since I wrote a blog post. I gave myself a little break because there been so much going on in my personal life, so I thought it would be a good idea to get back into the swing of blogging with a personal update –

Planning a Wedding – probably one of the main reasons for not blogging so much lately. Any spare time I get in the evenings, I’m trying to put my concentration to wedding planning. I have been really laid back about the whole wedding planning thing – much to my family and friend’s frustration! If I have a pound for every time someone said “haven’t you sorted that yet?” or “you should really get on a sort that out”, I would be able to pay for the entire wedding, no problem! We get married in April, and admittedly we are a bit behind and getting everything sorted, but it’s because we have had so much going on with our changing jobs. I’m going go into more detail about my wedding planning thoughts and updates on a future blog post, but what I can say is that I honestly didn’t realise how much detail goes into planning a wedding!

New Job – As some readers may know I have been working in London for the past year, and although I loved my job the commute was a little too stressful for my liking. I then found a great opportunity a little closer to home, right in the middle of Brighton and I changed my job about 6 weeks ago. I now currently work in a fantastic digital agency called Net Natives, working as their new Direct Media Buyer and Planner. As all new jobs go, it does take awhile to get settled into a new routine which is also been why I’ve been a little preoccupied. Everything is going well though and working closer to home means I get more spare time in the evening to enjoy life again – no more 4hrs a day spent on a train for me!

Got some new wheels – My amazing fiancé, surprised me by getting me my own little Smart car. Ash, my fiancé works for Mercedes and he began his role selling Smart cars which meant he got to drive around a variety of Smart cars for his company car. I fell in love with them and kept saying, as soon as I start working closer to home I would treat myself by getting a little Smart car so it would be easier to get around. Knowing full well I wouldn’t bite the bullet and get one (I struggle to treat myself to anything that costs a lot of money because I always think it can go to something more practical) he ordered me one and I’m so glad he did. I love my little car now and it means I can go out and do so much more for myself. I love her so much, I’ve called her Suzie 🙂

Slimming World – as you know if you’ve read any of my Slimming World Sunday posts, I’ve been doing Slimming World now for just over 4 months. I’ve currently lost 1 stone but it’s been a very, very slow process with a lot of ups and downs. With the new job and a better routine with more time in the evenings, I’m finding slimming world a little more easier to stick to. Fingers crossed, I can get a bit closer to my target over the next couple of months. I’ll keep you updated!

Concentrating on me! – Overall there has been a lot going on in my life at the moment, and rather than feeling overwhelmed to try and doing everything half heartedly, I’ve decided I need to put myself first. Take some time to truly think about what I want to do and achieve. For example with blogging, I didn’t want to write anything for the sake of it just to get a post live – at the end of the day ,why would anyone want to read something I didn’t feel passionate about! Which is why I took the conscious decision to take things one step at a time and make sure I’m doing things that make me feel happy!

Hopefully that gives you a little update about me, but what have you guys been up too? Hope you have all been well and I’ll see you very soon with another blog post soon!

REVIEW: Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge

If you’re a fan of all things beauty or have recently walked down the beauty tools aisle in Boots, you would have noticed that the gorgeous Pixiwoo girls have released some new miracle sponges as part of their collection. Regular readers to StephiSays, will know I’m already a massive fan of their Miracle Complexion Sponge (the orange one!), so when I knew they were bringing out three new types of sponges, I got really excited!

Added to their Real Techniques collection now is; the Diamond Sponge (as part of the bold metal range), mini easer sponges and a sculpting sponge. The first new sponge I wanted to try was the Sculpting Sponge because I liked the unusual shape with different sides and edges to do different jobs in applying  my make-up.

This little pink sponge claims to be one tool with 6 uses; a large rounded side to blend, a large flat edge to apply contour, small flat edge to apply highlight, a small rounded side to also blend along with a large and small tip for different areas of your face. And I love it! It really does have the perfect shapes and edges to reach those hard to reach places. I love it mainly for blending in my concealer under my eyes and around my nose, but I’ve also tested in applying cream contour too and it’s great!

A word of warning however, is just be careful when washing this sponge. Due to the unusual shape, it’s quite weak in the middle/thinnest part of the sponge. I usually wash my makeup blenders with baby shampoo under running water and whilst I was in a rush I did accidently tear my sponge. Just something to be aware of, because I’m already on my second sculpting sponge. But yes, it’s that good that I repurchase another one after my little accident. I just can’t wait to try the rest of the new sponges!

Have you tried the new Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge? Have you tried any of the other new miracle sponges?

Beauty Miniatures- My Handbag Essentials

beauty-minisbeauty-minis-2

Doesn’t everyone love a beauty miniature? Yes, they are very cute and perfect for travelling but for me, a beauty mini isn’t just for your holiday, they’re for my handbag too!

I’ll admit, I like to carry a large handbag but that’s only because I like to be prepared. Whist working in London (although I’ve recently move jobs – more on that another day!), I was out of the house for 13+ hours and there might be occasions when I would go out after work for the evening too. You usually don’t have the luxury of heading home to freshen up, so these minis come in really handy.

OK, so it’s not that sexy talking about needing to spray deodorant during the day – maybe it’s been a hot day, or you’ve just sprinted across town for a meeting, but it’s definitely not sexy smelling funky throughout the day! I keep this mini can of Nivea anti-perspirant in my handbag at all times and it’s been a real life saver when I’ve been a little hot or want to freshen up before an unexpected night out. And those unexpectant nights out generally always come up when I should of really washed my hair the night before – enter in the mini can of Batiste! I would rather cancel going out after work, than go out with greasy roots, so a couple of sprays of dry shampoo has also saved me of few times recently.

I also quite like travelling with makeup wipes too. They come in handy when tidying up makeup mistakes when you freshening up your makeup but I actually also like these when I’ve got a long commute home. After a long day at work, the best feeling in the world it taking off my makeup at the end of the day but when there is another 2hr on a train to get home, I’ve been known to take my makeup whilst I’m on the train. Admittedly, I would only do it when I’m having a good skin day, but I love having a couple of extra hours break from wearing my full face of makeup. Then all I have to do when I get home is do a full cleanse.

See, beauty minis are great for everyday use! And it’s worth remembering that most high-street beauty stores (Boots or Superdrug) will generally offer mini on a 3 for 2 deal.

What beauty minis do you love? Do you keep them in your handbag too?
